Queer + Interracial Hockey Romances to Read While Waiting For Heated Rivalry

We’ve all been swept away in the Heated Rivalry magic. Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams have taken our beloved Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander and given us a new obsession in both queer books and media. Between the Game Changers series by Rachel Reid and the show brought to us by Jacob Tierney, we’re all looking for that next obsession.

For some, this is the first experience with romance. Learning that love stories, especially queer ones, don’t have to end tragically (no, we will not debate. Romance requires a Happy For Now - HFN or Happy Ever After - HEA, full stop) and the characters can ride off into the sunset and we know things are going to be okay. For others, it’s the first dive into hockey romance and the rare case of seeing diversity on the ice.

All we know is… we want more! But Heated Rivalry only just announced season 2, so we’ve got some time to fill with other queer and amazing hockey romances. So add these to your TBR, make sure you review them and post about them just as much as you do the straight romances, and shout out more queer voices.

Please note, this is not an exhaustive list, nor have I read them all. But they are on my TBR and I have done my best to exclude AI or other problematic content (please send me a note if I’ve made a mistake in my research). This post also contains affiliate links.

Queer Hockey Romance

Crossed Sticks - Ryan Taylor & Joshua Harwood

Crossed Sticks is a romance that’s anything but easy—and worth every moment. While the story is high on angst and deals with serious topics such as depression and anxiety, you can also expect witty banter, hilarious text conversations, public hookups, friends with benefits, grand romantic gestures, and exciting hockey scenes. Even better, there’s high heat, light kink with tons of dirty talk, found family, and a Happy Ever After that will leave you breathless.

Pucking Around - Emily Rath

When an ambitious sports medicine practitioner scores her dream job working for Jacksonville’s hottest NHL team, she knows the last thing she should do is get tangled up with a player. After all, how could she choose just one?

Polyamorous romance, contains MM pairing

Pucking Strong - Emily Rath

The Jacksonville Rays go international when their Swedish star forward and the team’s physical therapist have to stage a very real fake marriage in this delicious slow burn, spicy MM, workplace hockey romance from viral sensation Emily Rath!

The New Guy - Sarina Bowen

My name is Hudson Newgate, but my teammates call me New Guy.

That was my nickname in Chicago, too. And Vancouver. That’s what happens when you keep getting traded. Brooklyn is my last chance, especially after my poor performance last season.

But I can make this work. The new guy knows to keep his head down and shoot the puck. The new guy puts the game first.

What he doesn’t do is hook up with the other new guy—a hot athletic trainer who lives in my building. Gavin needs this job with my team. He’s a single dad with responsibilities.

We can’t be a couple. My arrogant agent–who’s also my father–will lose his mind if I’m dating a dude. And my team needs me to score goals, not whip up a media circus.

Too bad Gavin and I are terrible at resisting each other…

Lesbian + Sapphic Hockey Romance

Like a Power Play - Elle Sprinkle

From Elle Sprinkle, author of bestselling lesbian romance "Puppy Love", comes "Like a Power Play", a sapphic college hockey rom-com about a team captain who butts heads with her new student coach, until she begins to fall for her.

The student coach. The team captain. They’re skating on thin ice— until one of them falls.

A Seasonal Love affair - Madison Nicole

Channing is in desperate need of a holiday break. With hockey season ramping up, her body is starting to pay the price. It’s the perfect time for a little vacation with her best friend. What Channing wasn’t expecting is Remi. A beautiful esthetician, who just happens to be working at the hotel and spa Channing is staying at. Remi immediately recognizes Channing and can’t help flirting because hockey is her weakness.

Wake Up, Nat & Darcy - Kate Cochrane

Between working, traveling together and that irresistible spark, it’s getting hard to separate what’s real and what’s for the camera. Because somewhere underneath everything that went wrong is the sneaking suspicion that nothing will ever feel quite this right again.

Keep adding these queer and interracial hockey romances to your list. Read them! Review them! Give them all the love so we can see more queer romances and voices lifted.
