Soul Remembered Playlist

YES it’s another playlist, this time for Soul Remembered, book 2 in the Blue Star series.

It’s obviously my tradition to have a playlist for each of these books, and the Soul trilogy weaves them directly into the story as you’re reading. I thought I’d give some fun, behind the scenes details to some of the songs and the corresponding scenes they were included in.

Fashion - The Royal Concept

First off, hilarious. I like to have my characters make fun of Clara’s lack of enthusiasm about dressing ‘nicely’. She’s always in the color gray, despises wearing a real bra, and basically lives in Nate’s sweatshirt. This song/scene is totally a jab at my mother who used to complain about my lack of color choices in my closet when I was younger.

I also included a line “I kind of like when you dress like a hobo” which IS INSPIRED BY A DIRECT QUOTE FROM MY LIFE. It was early one morning and I went to the training room where my friend worked. He took one look at my outfit (sweats, a shirt that was covered in dirt from field work, and my hair falling out of my ponytail) and says “you look like a hobo.”

Because it’s every girl’s dream to be told that to her face by a dude. Surprisingly, he still lives after saying that…

Splitting in Two - Mating Ritual

At the time of writing this book, Mating Ritual was very quickly becoming my favorite band. This song was top of the list, and honestly, it might have inspired the entire plot twist of this book. On first listen, I knew that it was going to be Clara/Finnley’s song. Obviously, I’m not going to give all the spoilers, but this song was so perfect for the scene you find it in and the struggle she feels.

Save Me - Noah Kahan

Oh, my heart broke when I was writing this scene. I wanted a song that captured Clara/Finnley’s conflicting emotions, and one that would resonate with Nate. They’ve always communicated best through music, so sometimes finding songs that are just right is difficult, but this one was a no brainer.

Monsters (ft Ella Boh) - brother sundance

Honestly, I was DESPERATELY waiting for this scene since Soul Forgotten because I knew Monsters had to be featured in this series. The haunting melody but incredibly catchy waves of it, the gorgeous voices… ugh, my heart. This song is on almost all of my writing playlists because it gets me in some moods.

Something New - The Score

My all time favorite song from The Score. I think finding the last song of a book is always a challenge. It has to wrap up the events of the book but also drive something forward. We’ve got a few hints of what might pose the challenge in the next book but it also encapsulates the struggle of what our favorite characters just went through. I totally picture this song being in the background of Soul Remembered’s future movie, just as the credits start to roll.
